Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) wins IHAI National Ice Hockey Championship in Gulmarg, J and K
JBN, 23/01 /2021, (REPORT SK), NEW DELHI/Gulmarg. : The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) won the Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) 10th National Ice Hockey Championship trophy after a superb win over Ladakh UT team in the finals in Gulmarg today. The ITBP team took home the trophy after a thrilling win over Ladakh with the score line (goals) 5-1. The match was held at Gulmarg Ice Rink, Gulmarg Development Authority, Jammu and Kashmir (UT). On behalf of ITBP Urgyan and Tashi scored 2 goals each while Punchuk scored 1 goal. At an altitude of 8,694 feet and the temperatures well below freezing point (Minus 1 degree), the National Ice Hockey Championship ended today. Hundreds of spectators witnessed the finals. Top 8 teams of Ice Hockey in India participated in the Championship organized from 16 to 22 January, 2021. The ITBP has a strong Ice Hockey team; with many of its players also represent the national Ice Hockey team. In recent years, the ITBP Ice Hockey team had won numerous tournaments in the region defeating all teams and became the National Ice Hockey Champions in 2019 as well. Ladakh has been considered as the capital of Ice Hockey in India where local men and women play this game with great enthusiasm and the game is developing very fast in the region among local youth as well. The Khelo India Ice Hockey Championship will also be organised in a few days from now.
